MY APPROACH

ANXIETY & DEPRESSION:
While Anxiety can sharpen the mind at times leading to creative problem solving with razor sharp efficiency, when out of balance, anxiety can be paralyzing. If left untreated, anxiety can become a burden, robbing you of what life really has to offer. Some of the methods I use to treat anxiety and depression include cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), solution- focused brief Therapy. The common thread or theme throughout all our work, however, is mindfulness.

Mindfulness is about learning to observe what is happening in the present moment while suspending judgment. Mindfulness has been explored, and can be found being used in major universities, hospitals, businesses, and the like.

When it comes to treating anxiety/depression, we draw from several different treatment modalities based on the needs of the individual person. In the context of a supportive, compassionate environment, we will work together to put your anxiety in its rightful place-to lower the volume of negative thoughts and put you back in control of your life.

TRAUMA:
I have extensive experience working with survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. When painful emotions around such experiences go unaddressed, they often find other, sometimes harmful, ways of making themselves known. Together we will be able to sit in the discomfort of our emotions and give them the space they deserve and ask for. Telling your story can offer you the chance to regain, or gain for the first time, a sense of agency and self-understanding.

GRIEF, LOSS, AND LIFE TRANSITION:
Our culture tends to only recognize death as a loss warranting grief, my understanding of grief is far more encompassing: grief is the emotional response to loss of any kind.  Grieving is a necessity that follows no linear pattern. It empowers individuals to open themselves up to allow the normal and natural responses to loss. Grief is a journey that can be chaotic and is not as predictable and orderly as you might be told. Finding meaning after a loss is relative and personal. Only you can find your meaning. It takes time, let me join you navigate this difficult process.

 TESTIMONIALS

“Leslie facilitated a grief support group that I attended. We went from six women who had experienced traumatic grief to six caring supporters of each other. No one wanted to say goodbye at the end of eight weeks. This was due to Leslie’s calm, nurturing demeanor. She let us have silences. She let us talk. She listened. If it was up to me, I would do eight more sessions!”

“Attending the eight-week grief support group sessions helped me more than I can put into words. I would recommend seeking help and support from Leslie to anyone. The sessions and the topics we discussed helped me in coping and dealing with the sudden loss of my mom. Leslie helped facilitate a kind, supportive, and welcoming environment. I am grateful to her and to the other members of the group for their commitment to attending and supporting each other. It was bittersweet that our time had to end at week eight. But I have more strength and support to keep moving forward. Thank you Leslie!!”
